I Had A Most Interesting Visitor To TRL A Few Minutes Ago

Are someone's ears burning?

Actually, I can't blame the Violence Policy Center and Mr. Sugarmann for wanting to know what is being said about their "little secret." From here, they headed over to Sebastian's place at Snowflakes in Hell.
BTW, very special thanks go to David Codrea for the tips on screen capture. You're the man!

The Ultimate In Hypocrisy

It appears that Josh Sugarmann, chief and primary mouthpiece of the Violence Policy Center, has a Federal Firearms Dealer license (FFL). Or maybe it is the VPC itself. Attorney and scholar David Hardy notes that the license is issued to VPC's office headquarters in Washington DC.

Which begs the question, as Mr. Hardy wonders: Does this mean that VPC and Sugarmann are exempt from the very handgun ban they defend?

Of course, one commenter on Mr. Hardy's Of Arms and the Law online journal has come to an interesting conclusion: "Sugarmann is positioning himself to be the first FFL to sell pistols in DC after Heller wins!"
Ah, the power of positive thinking!

Hypocrisy, Part II

"What interests me is that a lot of people who frown on cigars and go ballistic if anyone lights up a cigarette near them have no problem smoking pot themselves or being around others who do. Will this lead them to:

"1. Now react violently to the threat of second-hand pot smoke the way they do
cigarette smoke? . . . "
Jeff Soyer points out that the people who would enjoy regulating EVERY LAST THING you do have a new weapon in their rhetoric. And those who enjoy some "herb" from time to time (Notice, I do not partake) now would find themselves between the proverbial rock and a hard place.

Personally, I don't really care whether pot is a cancer risk. The potential hypocrisy of it all is what intrigues me.
