ATF Running Out of Form 4473s

Thanks to the far-left leadership in the U.S. Congress, and the election of the largely anti-self defense, anti-gun Barack Obama as president of the United States (don't look at what he has said, look at his record), the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is running out of Form 4473s.

According to the news release from the government agency, due to "unprecedented demand" the BATF is running low on these forms. They have given firearms retailers the go-ahead to make photocopies, if necessary. Uncle has the details and more links.
At least this is one agency that doesn't seem to think it necessary to get in the way of lawful commerce. For now . . .

They could opt to use the E-form ...

WASHINGTON, Nov 19, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Speaking at a press conference at the Maryland Small Arms Range in Upper Marlboro, Maryland the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced the launch of an electronic Form 4473 -- the Firearms Transaction Record which must be filled out any time a person buys a firearm from a licensed firearms dealer. The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) -- the trade association for the firearms industry -- hailed the development of the electronic document.
As part of the announcement, the ATF issued a ruling allowing firearms retailers to choose between a free downloadable version of the Form 4473 from the ATF Web site or an alternative commercial software-based version of the Form 4473, provided certain requirements are met by the vendor.
"The E - 4473 will help all firearms retailers, especially small independent retailers, by giving the federal firearms licensee an opportunity to reduce costs and further enhance compliance issues by eliminating -- or at the very least reducing -- innocent mistakes caused by human error," said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.
The E-4473 will be entirely voluntary -- voluntary for the dealer and voluntary for the customer. Furthermore, the E - 4473 is not part of a government database, and it is not connected to any government computer or exchange.
