Hillary On Guns: Last Month In New Hampshire

With the Iowa caucuses just two days in the rearview mirror, the presidential hopefuls have jetted to the Granite State. A lively debate ensued tonight for candidates from both parties in New Hampshire, broadcast live.

The firearms debate still rages, but under the surface. It is going to surface again, though. I found this video of Hillary Clinton at a December 6, 2007 town meeting in Gilford, N.H. Make up your own mind where she stands as she answers a question about firearms. The person who posted the vid has his own commentary running across the screen from time to time.

She maintains she believes we need to protect 2A rights. Interesting considering she continues to co-sponsor anti-gun bills. She also notes the Heller case soon to argued before the Supreme Court. But her message is, as usual, riddled with focus-group tested language about keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and keeping us all from being shot while out Christmas shopping. She mentions hunters, target shooters, and collectors, but NEVER mentions firearms for personal protection. Not once.

Of course, she knows her audience. This was a group there to hear Hillary expound on her beliefs. New Hampshire is a fairly liberal state, but it has a strong firearms culture. While it was typical pandering to the crowd, she tried to sprinkle her message with one of support for gun owners. If she is the eventual nominee, and who knows where that's going right now, I wager her message to a national electorate will be even more muted about gun control.
