U.S. Attorney General Mike DeWine?

For Ohio gun owners, this is a thought that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand at attention, with painful chills running through your body.

I'm not trying to be funny. Former U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine is no friend to lawful firearms ownership and his name is being tossed around as a possible attorney general choice if republican John McCain somehow gets himself elected president. On Sunday, The Columbus Dispatch had a story on this subject. I had heard these rumblings a few weeks ago as McCain's struggling presidential campaign started to revive. But I was in denial. Didn't believe it. Didn't WANT to believe it.

Chad Baus of Buckeye Firearms Association has a strongly worded essay on why this is NOT a good path for the future of the Second Amendment. Read his well crafted piece here.

Much to many firearms owners disappointment, the newly energized McCain juggernaut continues to roll. The media is in love with the man (probably because many of his positions, with the exception of the military and national security, lean so leftward). And today, Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf is expected to endorse McCain.

So would a President John McCain tap Mike DeWine as his attorney general? I don't know. But trust me on this, Ohioans know better than anyone exactly how Mr. DeWine, who was proud of his re-election endorsement from the Brady Campaign, feels about our hobby, our passion, and for every American -- the single most reliable means of self defense.

By the way, did I mention that Ohio voters threw DeWine out of office a couple years ago? Thinking republicans were tired of his lip-service, and decided not to vote for him again.

We voted him out for good reason. Not that Sherrod Brown is much better, but better the devil you know than the devil you can't trust.

Brent,
This would awful for the nation. He was so antigun it wasn't funny. Makes me think of Ted Strickland hiring Lee Fisher as LT GOV in Ohio, with Ted being pro gun and Fisher being a gun control nut.
