NY: Spitzer License Plan Goes Down In Flames; Hillary's Complaints Helped Seal Decision

BREAKING: The New York Post's Albany Bureau Chief Fred Dicker is reporting that Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign put intense pressure on New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer to abandon his controversial "drivers licenses for illegal aliens" plan because it was hurting her campaign. The Post is reporting that the Clinton campaign felt significant damage was being done to her presidential efforts not just in New York, but across the nation. Only today, after a disastrous debate where she flip-flopped on the issue, and mounting pressure from across the nation, did Mrs. Clinton abandon her support for the plan. Until today, Spitzer had fully intended to implement his program even though more than 70 percent of New Yorkers opposed the scheme.
In addition to outrage from ordinary Americans, the plan had firearms owners in the Empire State in an uproar for two reasons: 1) An illegal alien with a legal NY driver's license might have been able to use the license for identification to illegally purchase a firearm; and 2) Spitzer has continually denigrated lawful firearms ownership by law abiding New Yorkers, yet was ready to "reward" illegal aliens in his state with an official piece of government identification.
