Hillary, McCain Win In New Hampshire

Update: Thursday, 6:26 am: Well, the emails to NPR had it right on questions about Diebold machines in New Hampshire. Or it is an orchestrated campaign. One way or another, democrat operatives and blogs are rumbling about Diebold "stealing the election" for Hillary Clinton. I don't know enough about it to comment, but here is an observation from the seriously left-wing Daily Kos.

Update: Wednesday, 11:37 am: The pre-primary polling in New Hampshire is being called "a fiasco" this morning. Say many, there is no way so many polls could be so wrong considering the results this morning. That story is here.

Also, there is a different kind of polling fiasco bubbling in the Granite State. This morning on my drive into downtown (as I was detoured around the tens of thousands of gallons of water pouring OUT OF the Greater Columbus Convention Center from a water main break), NPR was reporting that Obama supporters in New Hampshire are ticked about the outcome, and suggesting that voting machine irregularity was a cause. I do not know what kind of machines are used there, but one email to NPR suggested that the Illinois senator was "Diebold-ed," a reference to machines manufactured by Diebold, whose owners historically are heavy GOP contributors.

Others on the radio this morning are saying that the results don't necessary reflect a huge upswell for Hillary, but in fact could be an example of the contrary nature of people in New Hampshire. Specifically with all the talk of Hillary losing and Obama being destined for the democrat nomination, people there said "whoa, not so fast," and voted the opposite just to show they aren't going to simply rubber stamp the results of the Iowa caucuses.

Now it is getting interesting!

********
"Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton won New Hampshire's Democratic primary Tuesday night in a startling upset, defeating Sen. Barack Obama and resurrecting her bid for White House . . ."

"Meanshile, Arizona Sen. John McCain won the New Hampshire primary Tuesday night, completing a remarkable comeback and climbing back into contention for the Republican presidential nomination . . ." The details are here.

Time to open a bottle of wine. It's going to be a long primary season.
