I missed this story over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day (so many bizarre things happen New Year's Eve it is hard to keep up). I spotted it today posted by Yuri on his Real Gun Guys blog.
Simpy put, trying to trace a loaded handgun in order to create a pattern for a tattoo is not a good idea. There is no mention in the story, but considering it was December 31, my guess is alcohol may have been a factor (as the LEOs like to say).
