Tinley Park Shooting Update; Women's Shop May Have Been Targeted

Updated: Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, 11:25 am -- The police previously have described this tragedy as an interrupted robbery. Could this, in fact, have been a stalking that was interrupted, and took an even worse turn?

Meanwhile, Lane Bryant is offering a $50,000 reward, while Cook County Crime Stoppers is putting up $5,000 for information leading to the killer's arrest.

*********
The Chicago Tribune is reporting this morning that the killer of five women at a Lane Bryant store in Tinley Park made sexual advances on at least one of the victims before the slayings, and may have targeted a women's shop "to avoid confrontation with men."

The sole survivor of the vicious attacks, a sixth woman, is under heavy guard at an area hospital and reportedly has provided police with key details of the events, and a description of the executioner.

BTW, the description of the criminal released by police include features such as: "a black man; a thick braid of hair curled across the gunman's clean-shaven cheek, decorated at the end with four pale green beads; a charcoal-grey knit cap; black man, weighing 230 to 260 pounds, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall; 25 to 35 years old, clean shaven, with a medium complexion and broad shoulders; probably a little pudgy . . ."

NOWHERE in the descriptions released did police EVER mention items like: three-inch barrel, two-inch barrel, blued, chrome, revolver, semi-automatic . . . get my point?

When Chicago's Mayor Daley once again fires up on his favorite subject, as he will be compelled to do because he is powerless to help himself, someone please remind him that the police told the public they are on the hunt for a criminal -- not a gun. Mayor Bloomberg, take note.
