DC Council Members Demanding Explanation for Firing of Heller Case Attorney

Several members of the DC City Council are up in arms (pardon the pun) about the unexpected firing of the lead attorney on the Heller case. No fans of firearms owners, to be sure, but they are not happy with the apparent cronyism occurring in the DC attorney general's office and in the office of Mayor Adrian Fenty.

In particular, one council member who oversees the attorney general's office sent a letter asking the following:

“Please explain: (1) the basis for this action; (2) the basis for seeking this action before you have actually taken the role of acting attorney general; and (3) your plans for proceeding with the Supreme Court case . . ." In addition, the Associated Press is reporting that as chairman of the council judiciary committee, Councilman Mendelson has been a long-standing critic of acting Attorney General Nickles, Mayor Fenty’s most trusted adviser and a longtime friend of the mayor’s father.

Like I said . . . cronyism. Still, if opponents to self-defense are bickering among themselves, perhaps it bodes well for every American's Second Amendment rights.
