Triggernometry

From the Jeff Foxworthy dictionary, meaning . . . no, I'm just kidding.

Seriously, Dave Golowenski, outdoors writer at the Columbus Dispatch, used that word as part of a story on how West Virginia officials are very seriously considering firearms safety training in schools there. This is something we have tried to push in Ohio, but to no avail. I look at it as no different than first aid training, or swimming lessons, but the "weenie factor" (as my good friend Cornell McCreary calls it) overrides common sense on the subject.

Nevertheless, here is the story from West Virginia. They are looking at this because hunting license revenue historically has contributed mightily to the state's operating budget. With declining numbers of hunters in the state, the budget is taking a hit. So the thinking is to get more kids interested in hunting by, first, giving them sorely needed safety instruction.
