The Cameras Are Coming . . .

Like it or not, cameras are coming to a park, or to a playground near you (at least if you live in New York City).

And in Washington DC, where residents still are not permitted to possess a handgun to defend themselves, police are now watching live images from dozens of surveillance cameras posted in high-crime parts of the city. They hope to be able to respond faster to shootings, robberies and other offenses and catch suspects before they get away.

Notice that politicians in the District do not say the are there to deter crime. They are just there to provide "hope" to beleagured residents that police might get to a crime scene more quickly.

Sigh . . .
