The New York Times Is Crazy

Oops, my bad. I should have written that the New York Times published an editorial yesterday calling the United States "gun crazy," and re-gurgitating a tired laundry list of gun controls it believes must be passed into law in order to make this a safer nation.

Freudian slip, I guess . . .

"No single measure or combination of measures can ensure that deranged individuals are prevented in every instance from shooting up a crowded classroom or shopping mall. But neither the absence of a perfect solution nor opposition from the powerful gun lobby is an excuse to do nothing — not when some 30 people are killed with guns every day in America. The rampage at the Northern Illinois campus was at least the sixth multiple murder in this country in just the first two weeks of February."

To the editors: Guess what? To say nothing is being done is, yes, intellectually dishonest. You just don't agree with what IS being done. There are bills in a number of states to enable law-abiding professors, staff and students to carry firearms for their protection on college campuses. There also is continuing movement to convince mall operators that their "gun-free zones" are in truth, killing fields, and to reverse their prohibitions on carry in those establishments.

Oh BTW, can anyone tell me why the NYT published its "hard-hitting" editorial on the day of the week when circulation is lowest, and stories are most overlooked by the public? In case you didn't know, when politicians have to announce something that might be viewed negatively (must be published though they rather would not), the old trick is to distribute the "news" late Friday -- because hardly anyone looks at Saturday newspapers.

I'm just curious.
