"Rebecca Aguilar's 14-year career as a Fox4 reporter has officially ended via a letter from an attorney representing the station. In a telephone interview Wednesday night, Aguilar, 49, said she was checking her mail at mid-afternoon that day when she noticed an envelope under her front door mat. It informed her that Fox4 was exercising an option to drop her at the halfway point of a two-year contract that began on March 6, 2007."
Good riddance. She was suspended in mid-October. It took station management awhile, but they made the right decision. Aggressive reporting is one thing. But this woman let her personal bias get the best of her. She embarrassed herself and her station by trying to embarrass a man who had been forced to exercise his basic human right of self defense. And she did it all to get a story. For ratings.
Pathetic.
This reporter verbally brow-beat an elderly man during an ambush interview in Dallas last year. Her goal? To get the man to say he did something wrong.
What prompted the impromptu parking lot interview? The man had shot and killed two intruders in three weeks. She met the man, stood over him, pummelling him with harsh questions until he was in tears. The questions? “Are you a trigger happy kind of person? Is that what what you wanted to do? Shoot to kill?”
What did most people not know? The shooter was 69 years old, and the two intruders whom he shot in separate incidents were each about half his age. To gain entry, they scaled a nine foot high security fence. Oh, and there's this: he lived at the place of business where the intruders entered.
But Ms. Aguilar conveniently left those details out of her story. Fox4 TV News in Dallas made a wise decision this week.
