Back in November 2007, I wrote about Kyle Cassidy's new book, "Armed America: Portraits of Gun Owners In their Homes." The book was growing in popularity, showing everyday, ordinary Americans and their firearms.
Well much has happened since that time. It became the most provocative work Krause Publications had ever put out -- and gave it its first-ever spot in the prestigious Amazon.com Top 100 Editors' Picks. In 2007, it ranked 61 overall and No. 8 among art and photography books.
“Each picture in ‘Armed America’ could be a pro-gun advertisement — or an anti-gun poster. That’s what makes the book so riveting,” Washington Post reporter Alan Cooperman wrote."
Some months ago, I had a chance to leaf through the book at a Cincinnati bookstore when I was there on business. Cassidy's photos are crisp. His accompanying text is thought-provoking. The subjects -- people and their guns -- are stunning.
They are . . . America.
