The Robinson High School rifle team, Fairfax, Va., teaches leadership, responsibility, and scholarship, and has been operating for more than 25 years without an injury or mishap.
Says team coach Robert "Bob" Hardy: "Our rifle is a tennis racket, is a lacrosse stick, is a field hockey stick . . . that's what it is. And the kids use that device to get a score, and to get a letter, or maybe they get a scholarship. So it's not viewed as a gun. We don't use the word."
"A safe -- and competitive -- club sport for these skilled high school students," says the reporter.
