The American Thinker has posted a contribution by Bob Weir, who suggests that if one out-of-uniform police officer had been present in the Kirkwood, Mo. city council meeting, or even if the town attorney had been armed, the shooting might have been stopped early on."The police officers were the first targets because the killer knew they were armed. Once he removed the threat from them, he knew he could begin to satisfy his malevolent thirst for revenge, unimpeded. The town attorney threw a couple of chairs at the madman, warding off some shots directed at him. Suppose that attorney was armed? How many lives might he have saved?"
I would add, if city fathers there -- as in many cities -- understood that they had created a victim-rich killing zone by banning lawful concealed carry in the city building, many more people that night would have gone home to their families. Instead, seven people were shot. Five of those will never be returning home.

Brent,
Like Bob Weir, I’ve covered the shootings in Kirkwood, Mo., during the past four days -- but from a local perspective.
After watching a local St. Louis television station’s interview of City Attorney John Hessel, I couldn’t help but think how he and other victims of Thursday night’s shooting tragedy might have fared better with the help of concealed firearms.
Among the 30 or so gathered in the Kirkwood City Hall meeting room that night, only one trained and qualified person — Officer Tom Ballman — carried a firearm. Had only one other trained person carried a firearm into the meeting that night, the number of dead and wounded might have been greatly reduced. Surprisingly, Kirkwood city laws don’t entirely prevent it!
Read more about it here.
Bob,
Thank you for the note. AND for the very interesting look at what the law in Kirkwood might have permitted. What is interesting is that street cops don't object to CC. It is politicians. Great coverage!
