Colorado Journalist Finds Paradox, Truths, Facts In The American Arms War

"They squeezed behind classroom desks and dutifully laid out their notebooks, seeking permits to carry a concealed handgun.

"A church elder hoping to feel less helpless should another gunman open fire in a sanctuary; a retired woman wanting backup on long rural drives; a burly, bearded man who thinks the world is getting crazier; a disabled man and his concerned father, seeking protection from street vultures."

In all, this is a pretty well-balanced piece from the Denver Post over the weekend. The writer does show some biases, but did a generally decent job of pointing out both sides. I would point out, however, that by ending with the anti self-defense comments of a representative of the so-called "Million Moms," asking for passage of middle ground legislation, he left the impression that we currently are not in a middle ground situation.

In fact, we are. If further restrictions are passed (CC holders must currently jump through a myriad of legal hoops to get a concealed handgun license in Colorado), we will no longer be in the middle ground. We will be continuing down a path of further restrictions.

BTW, the story also includes profiles on a handful of the individuals who were enrolled in the concealed carry class. A very realistic cross-section of America -- and not unlike the average people who come through the CCW classes I help teach in Central Ohio.
