In southeast Ohio, conservative values run deep. A mix of appalachian, independent-minded folks along with people from urban areas who have decided to get out of dodge. Sometimes the urban peoples carry with them some less than independent-minded ideals, but they eventually (or reluctantly) learn that the country side is a far safer area than the city. Because there are firearms and law-abiding individuals are not squeamish about using force to defend their lives.
Even Athens County is generally a conservative, self-sufficient locale. Except for the campus of Ohio University. There, with the exception of the local Second Amendment Club, values mostly run far to the left.
Sadly, this letter to the editor of the Athens Post newspaper (OU's campus newspaper) is indicative of much of the two-dimensional thinking at this college. Worth the read to further understand the mind of many college students on firearms and self defense.
