Kansas Tornado Is A Reminder Why Firearms, Self Defense Rights Must Not Be Infringed

One year ago yesterday, a massive two-mile wide tornado touched down in Kansas and virtually erased the small town of Greensburg from the face of the Earth. Almost immediately, authorities declared martial law and went around town confiscating guns.

"They took them not only from destroyed homes and buildings, but from undamaged structures where they had to literally “break and enter” to gain access. One gun owners’ neighbors described to him listening to the police on their scanner, discussing how to break into his gun safe to take his guns.

"The confiscated weapons were thrown into a semi-trailer and left to rust in the heat and humidity. By the time there were eventually returned to their owners (some especially valuable firearms have gone missing), they were rusted shut, stocks cracked and missing parts."

After Hurricane Katrina, after the tornado of Greensburg, states across the nation have been passing legislation prohibiting the confiscation of firearms from otherwise law abiding citizens during a state of emergency.

The Real Gun Guys have an amazing essay this morning on their site, discussing Kristallnacht, the uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto, The Battle of Athens (a citizen uprising in post WW2 Tennessee), The Deacons For Defense fight against the Klan in Louisiana, the Rodney King verdict and its affect on Los Angeles, Hurricane Katrina, and finally, the aftermath of the Greensburg, Kansas tornado.

In every situation, armed, law-abiding peoples preserved the safety of others, or fought for freedom and liberty. In a community that works together, the bad guys will go elsewhere.

If you are willing to fight for what is right.

We always start in the legislature and in the courts. But you have a basic human right of self defense. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Ever.
