The Ohio Senate Criminal Justice Committee introduced a substitute bill for SB 184, the Castle Doctrine/No Duty To Retreat language that has had five hearings to date. I'm still getting analysis from folks who were at the hearing (I had a conflict and could not make it), but I am told that "the usual suspects" don't like the language.
Which means its probably a decent bill. Time will tell.
Here is the language of the sub bill, taken from the Ohioans for Concealed Carry website.
The Committee is expected to vote this bill out next Wednesday, where it will move to the full Senate for consideration. More to come . . .
ALSO -- a bill will be introduced in the same Committee next Wednesday -- a first hearing -- which is described as a "Firearms Modernization" law. Being written by Sen. Faber, this bill is expected to fix some of the continuing problems in Ohio's four-year-old concealed carry law, and prohibit confiscation of privately owned firearms by LEOs from otherwise law abiding citizens during a state of emergency.
Referred to by lawmakers in other states, that have passed similar legislation, as "The Katrina Confiscation Bill," the proposal is a common sense effort to prevent the same kind of travesty from being played out here that occurred in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.
